Balance Coin (BLC), an algorithmic stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, plummeted over 99% following a suspected attack involving 42DAO. Security firms PeckShield and TenArmor reported that the attacker minted unsupported BLC tokens on BNB Chain via two suspicious transactions, then swapped them for USDT and BTCB on PancakeSwap, resulting in losses of approximately $915,000. BLC's price fell from near $1 to as low as $0.001209, currently trading around $0.00247, a 24-hour drop of 99.75%.

The Midnight Foundation has released an update on the Wanchain cross-chain bridge attack. The hacker exploited a vulnerability in the TreasuryCheck validator, amplifying a legitimate signature on BNB Chain by 65,000 times on the Cardano side, stealing 515 million NIGHT tokens (approximately $9 million). Seven exchanges, including Binance and OKX, urgently froze related accounts, preventing most of the funds from being transferred. However, the hacker is still dumping about 290 million tokens on decentralized exchanges, causing NIGHT's price to plummet over 30%. Wanchain has disabled the bridge and fixed the vulnerability.

Wanchain's Cardano-to-BNB Chain bridge was exploited, resulting in the theft of approximately 515 million NIGHT tokens (worth $9 million) from a Cardano side vault. Blockchain security firm BlockSec's preliminary investigation suggests the vulnerability may stem from the TreasuryCheck validator failing to add separators or record field lengths when encoding signed messages, leading to a signature reuse attack. Midnight Foundation stated that its core network remains unaffected, with the attack limited to third-party bridge infrastructure. NIGHT tokens dropped over 30% in 24 hours.

Cross-chain bridge Allbridge has paused its Core protocol following a flash loan attack. The attacker borrowed $1.12 million in a flash loan from Solana lending protocol Kamino, manipulated the internal pricing of Allbridge's stablecoin liquidity pool, then extracted approximately $1.65 million in assets at a low price and bridged them to Ethereum. Allbridge has asked liquidity providers to withdraw funds and urged traders who profited from the arbitrage window to return funds to compensate affected LPs.

In the first five months of 2026, DeFi protocols lost over $840 million to hacks, with April alone accounting for more than $600 million, primarily from exploits on KelpDAO ($292 million) and Drift Protocol ($285 million). North Korea-linked hackers were responsible for 76% of global crypto hack losses, up from 64% in 2025 and less than 10% in 2020. Experts note that AI has lowered the barrier for finding vulnerabilities, making old and unverified smart contracts prime targets. Attacks on THORChain and others have exposed structural weaknesses in cross-chain bridges and management systems.
